Shrimp and Tropical Fruit

Founded in 1522, San Lorenzo didn't really prosper until the age of A/C. Prior to that time, Amapala on the Isla El Tigre was the primary seaport in the Golfo de Fonseca. Now, shrimp farming is king in this region, such that a primary reason to stop here is to fill-up on the low priced jumbo shrimp. Another harvest of the low lying hot region is tropical produce, so fresh fruit juices are also readily available.

Stop Over on Way to Amapala

Since the ferry between Coyolito and Amapala services only during the day, we had to stop in San Lorenzo for the night. We arrived after dark and stayed at the Hotel Villa Concha Mar. The turned out to be worthwhile not only for the restaurant but also for the rooftop pool and views of the city.
