Middelburg is a city in the Dutch province Zeeland, which played an important role in the Dutch East India Company during the 17th century.

The city was heavily bombed by the Germans on May 17th 1940, during the second world war, which is the reason why it has relatively few old buildings.

One of the most beautiful buildings that was more or less spared is the city hall, build between 1452 and 1520. However, the inside was completely burned, only the exterior survived the German bombing.
