Galicnik is undoubtedly the most famous village in
Mavrovo National Park. It is build on the slope of a mountain, with wonderful examples of traditional architecture.
Galicnik can be reached by car from Mavrovo town (15 km) over the Bistra plateau.
Alternatively, you can go to Galicnik by foot from Jance, a two hour hike that I did not do myself but which is described in the Bradt travel guide Macedonia.
Since 1963, on the 12th of July a traditional wedding is organized, the Galicnik Wedding. This is an event to commemorate the traditional wedding customs and show tribute to the Macedonian cultural heritage. The
Church of St Peter and Paul plays a central role in this wedding.
