"Vinica" Vinica by Pijlmans

Vinica is a village in the northeast of Macedonia, close to Kocani. The name Vinica originates from the first half of the 7th century, because of the grapevine growing and grape processing into wine.

It has an interesting, quite well preserved and partially restored fortress, also called "Kale".

Vinica Kale is famous for the Terracotta Icons from the 6th and 7th century that were found there.

An other archeological site, just outside Vinica, is Gorica, where the ruins of the Gorica Basilica can be found.

We went here on a day trip from Stip, when we also visited the archeological site Bargala near Stip and the 5th century basilica in Morodvis.
