Tajmiste Mountain Hut: Mountain hut near Mavrovo National Park

If you are going to hike in the Mavrovo National Park, you could stay in the mountain hut near Tajmiste. It is a simple but clean mountain hut, with about 40 beds. You probably have to share your room with other guests if it gets busy.

This used to be an old railway station, that has been renovated. You enter the site by car through a small tunnel from the road to Tajmiste (see pictures).

There's the possibility to have a BBQ and campfire (and to drink rakija!). Like other mountain huts, you have to bring your own food and drinks.

The mountain hut is run by volunteers from Mountain Club Kitka (Rabotnicki Kitka), and you have to contact them to ask if the mountain hut is open or if they can open it for you. If you want, I could also arrange something for you since one of the members of the hiking club that runs the place is a friend of mine.

Directions: West from the road between Gostivar and Kicevo, near the village of Tajmiste. Near the railroad station Tajmiste, reachable from Gostivar by asphalt road, turning left before Mavrovo, 100 km from Skopje.

Private houses: Cheap accommodation in Ohrid

When you get off the bus from Skopje to Ohrid, more often than not local people are waiting at the bus station to offer you a room. Keep this in mind before you book an expensive hotel! I cannot actually say that I have gotten a room like this myself, since my family-in-law have a house in Ohrid.
But it would be an option for me when this would not be the case!
