One long weekend -- I didn't have to work on Monday -- I got a "traveler's itch." Sounds familiar, anybody? Since I love looking at Victorian houses, I decided to search for a closest one and just go there. Well, White Castle, LA, caught my eye because of the Nottoway Plantation.
So I printed out driving directions, made a reservation, packed an overnight bag, and took off to Louisiana.
Well, I didn't have any problems getting to New Orleans. Getting to White Castle was not as easy. First of all, it was already dark. Second, my driving directions were saying to board the ferry. It took me some time to find the ferry. However, it was deserted; the last ferry left several hours before I got there. So I could see White Castle across the Mississippi, but couldn't get there unless I wanted to swim. No, thank you!
Finally, after stopping at the gas station and asking for directions, I found a bridge. If you ever want to go there, look for the Sunshine Bridge! |

We were vendors at a Craft show held here while the fromer owner lived there by herself. When sold to the new owners she retained the right to live there for her lifetime. Will have to go back to see the marvelous restorations. |
