The Wind Caves

Gaviota is a unique coastal stop off in California. If you are driving up or down the coast and want a break to stretch your legs and check out mother nature on foot, this is a great place to see. its relatively quiet and oh-so-pretty. This place is about 1 hour north of Santa Barbara. you would take the Gaviota campground exit from the 101 and follow the road to the campground entrance - veer up to the right just before the campground entrance and follow the road up to a dirt parking lot, you will see a gate with a mountain lion sign posted near the gate. follow the road for about 1/2 - 3/4 mile and veer off to the left onto the dirt trail and follow that up to the ridge line. once you get to the ridge line follow the ridge line trail up a little ways and you will come upon a small windcave. that cave in and of itself is nice, but if you have more energy, follow the trail up further to those other windcaves you can see on the side of the hill.. its worth the extra energy put forth, the views are fantastic and meant to be appreciated!
