Initially I was nonplussed why anyone would want to allocate such huge resources to build a garden city from scratch in the midst of a desert. My tour guide Cookie explained that it is only during the 3 summer months that it is truly hot. Otherwise the weather is sunny and dry making it an ideal winter retreat for the rich and famous. Of course it certainly helps that the desert has its own beauty and appeal too. |
