Welcome to this tiny island that shouldn't have existed in the first place. We became a nation not by choice but because we were kicked out by Malaysia. It's as if the father has disowned the ungrateful child. Much to the parent's chagrin, the child has not only stood up and walked tall among nations, it has grown very rich and clever with a survival instinct honed from years of insecurity and fear.
Sadly the lack of parental love has led to a stunted growth and a lost childhood. Singaporeans have yet to become a mature adult despite their flashy wealth but nonetheless child-like obedience to the ruling government PAP ( People's Action Party). No prizes for guessing how we pronounce PAP.(Just add the letter 'a' after it).
However do take heed not to blaspheme the sacred good name of the PAP or you might just fail the 'PAP's Smear test' and end up on the wrong side of the law (or the wrong end of the....).
