Aotea is a nice little square with a beautiful monument in the middle. I didnt get to do much since it was raining while i was there. But have a little stroll, relax and maybe munch on a cookie/sanwich.

Great place to sit and have lunch. It was raining when i was here on the first day, but i came back a few days later with some sushi. You can have a little browse of the maritime museum, but i think there is an entrance fee (and since i was traveling on a tight budget) i didnt enter. The viaduct basin has a few nice (and expensive i reckon!) cafes too, so u might want to spend the afternoon here for lunch and admire the tranquility of auckland's beautiful harbour.

You'll see this big boat near the maritime museum in Viaduct Basin. Its the boat NZ used in the America's Cup. The viaduct harbour is also the venue for America's Cup few years ago. You could even pay to go on one of these boats/yatch.

Skycity tower is the tallest in the southern hemisphere a 328meters (that makes it taller than paris' Eiffel tower and sydney's AMP). IMPORTANT: Make sure u go on a clear day!!! i was in Auckland in winter and it rains most of the time. i was lucky to have one clear day. Entrance is about 12 or 13dollars for students, adult tickets are slightly more. The view is just amazing, i think you can see as far as 82km on a clear day.

Fancy jumping off a tower? Well, u can do that in auckland's skytower. Just incase you are wondering, no, i didnt do it, i'm too chicken to even dive off a 10meter board. Picture shows some brave lady hanging near the observation deck of the tower for a few seconds before plunging allllllllllllll the way down.

There's a casino here (i made 100bucks on a lucky bet too, hehehe), a hotel and a beautiful wooden monument in the ground floor too. The casino isnt that big, but big enough for auckland i guess.

Nice park in between the universities and the CBD. Relax and rest your legs a little after some long walk, enjoy the scenery and snap some pics here.

mad4travel Mon Aug 8, 2005 12:04 UTC Nice Auckland tip about bungeeing from the Sky Tower. Brought back good memories of watching idoits fling themselves off - something I'd never do! :-) |
