August 2006 - My second trip here, this time merely for the Mola-Mola (sunfish) sightings at Nusa Penida, a small island, east of Bali. My first trip was back in April 2002. Back then, things were more lively and the main town, Kuta was filled with tourists in and out.
Had a whole day in Kuta and my time was spent on a shopping spree, mainly making purchases of boardshorts and t-shirts. For the remaining days, Candidasa became my base for lodging and food. Nothing incredible about this place, it's less touristy than Kuta, quiet though with a couple western eateries and some local cafes (warungs). Nevertheless, it's a perfect gateway to stay close to more natural surroundings and relax.
About 90% of the friendly Balinese people practice Hinduism with temples at every nook and corner of the island. |
Some places to visit 1. Ubud (culture and arts & craft - dance performances are held every evening) 2. Kuta (party and surfing) 3. Kintamani 4. Jimbaran (seafood) 5. Bersakih (Mother of all temples) 6. Mount Agung 7.Nusa Dua 8. Sanur (Beach) 9. Uluwatu (Sacred temple) 10. Ayung River (White water rafting) 11. Candidasa (peace and quiet, less touristy) |
