Diamonds on the soles of my shoes........

Lake Martin near Breaux Bridge, Louisiana

Left the shores of Africa to settle in the Swamps

I moved from Durban, South Africa in 2002 to a small little town called Breaux Bridge in South Louisiana. The climate is very similar - hot and humid! I miss the Indian Ocean but have managed to find joy in boating at Lake Martin which is close to where I live. We also have the Teche Bayou running through our little town. I love boating down the river on late afternoons - there are beautiful properties on either side of the river. Breaux Bridge has some wonderful gift and antique shops, art galleries and coffee shops. Cafe Des Ami draws a crowd every Saturday morning to eat, drink and be merry to the sounds of live Cajun or Zydeco music. Very French, very festive. We are about 20 minutes drive from Lafayette.

Lafayette..a stone's throw from where I live....

Lafayette is a large sprawling town but Downtown Lafayette is my favorite! The CBD - Central Business District literally comes alive after hours. When the heat of Summer passes, Downtown Lafayette closes off some of its streets and people come to dance and party. (Downtown Alive). Lafayette also has an annual International Music and Arts Festival which coincides with Jazz week in New Orleans. Not to be missed!
