Driving in from the airport for our 5 day stay, there were endless blocks of flats(apartments), incredible road interchanges (up to 5 and 6 levels), kitsch sights like a giant bunch of flowers, old European style buildings and glimpses of futuristic modern ones.
While observing all this our guide was filling us with facts, figures and fables: modern Shanghai girls look for the 6 Cs when looking for a husband: car, condo, credit card, cash, certificate (degree)!
The only way to make sense of this city was to stop trying to make sense of it and just take it as it came, fragments of old, new, different, chaotic and timeless. |
