"So much to see, so little time..." Melaka by SPW
Melaka Travel Guide: 1,562 reviews and 3,793 photos
After a leisurely train journey from Singapore to Tampin, and then a fast and furious taxi ride in one of the most dilapidated taxis we had ever seen we found a peaceful base in Melaka at the Hotel Puri. Peaceful, and mercifully air conditioned as the sweat fell in drops from our foreheads, far removed from the idea fo women glowing with heat.
Recovering fast we ventured out for a tour of the main sights which overwhelmed us with history and culture. We only had two days there and left feeling that thee was more we could have seen and done, but really glad that we had made the effort to visit. The people were so friendly, and proud of their heritage, the food was wondeful and we even managed to do a little shopping (suitcases to encourage further travel).
- Pros:History, culture, food
- Cons:Heat, probably more activity later in the week/weekends
- In a nutshell:Interesting cultural and historic experience

Melaka is a little gem. But the humidity is a killer.
Sue looks like you tried the chicken rice balls from chop chung hwa. They're the best!
A very enjoyable read about a place I know nothing about....thorough, informative, helpful, and interesting. Great restaurant tips. Thanks.
Thanks for the useful information, particularly on the Hotel Puri. We'll be staying there next February on our visit to Melaka.
Nice page on my hometown here esp the travellogues - there'll be more tips I guess if you spend more time in Melaka; well maybe next time. -m- p/s It's not James Bond movie's location, its Sean Connery's Entrapment
Hmmm.... chicken rice balls.... Must try that someday. Could not get this dish in Singapore though..
I am glad that you went to Hotel Puri cause I went there because of you :))) Very nice pics of the river :)) I forgot the river in my page and is one of the most important parts :)) Thanks for sharing :))))))
