I visited Ponte de Lima on a sunny October day (1999). It was my first visit there. I drove through the city, and my first impression was that it was very beautiful.
Some manor houses, cobbled and narrow streets, people walking through - a place with its own life, ... very cosy, since it isn't too big. And everything seemed cheerfully arranged, beautiful flowers on the balconies, ... and some nice streets only for pedestrians.
We soon found out there was something going on, since there were lots of people gathering somewhere, ... :-( unfortunately is was elections time and one of the candidates was doing his campaign there, ... no place to park our car and discover the lovely city by foot.
As we sadly left Ponte de Lima we noticed that crossing the bridge (a modern one) there was a big green space and decided to stop there. It was the Nautical Club, beautiful green lawns, just by the river, and a pleasant place to sit and rest for a while, ... And a great view over the city that we had just left behind.
And in November 2003 I had the chance of visiting again, this time after I joined VT and met Nat (ncfg) who lives in Ponte de Lima. As I was spending some days in Geres (about 70km), we agreed I would meet her and she kindly showed me around.
Thanks Nat for welcoming me into your lovely hometown. It is really beautiful and worth visiting. |
