Accesses to Vila Real are good and fast by those traveling by car – coming from Lisbon or Porto there are highways – and exits are well signalized. But don’t drive too fast as the landscape is gorgeous!! You will be driving across Serra do Marão, a beautiful mountain.

Once in Vila Real I’d advise everyone to park in city centre and walk, as everything is nearby and at hand. Some interesting streets (kind of downtown with a lot of commerce) are pedestrian only.

On my photo there’s the underground parking we used in city centre – you must pay a parking fee, and I don’t recall rates. But I remember that I found it cheap, so much cheaper than Lisbon or Porto (which compared to other European cities also have cheap parking fees). This park is situated at Avenida Carvalho Araújo, by the Police.
