One of the most underated state parks in the U.S. has to be Hawk's Nest State Park in West Virginia. This area of the country is absolutely stunning. Its name is very fitting...hawks can be seen flying overhead almost all the time. Alaina and I have visited twice and will certainly go back again. There are many, many recreational opportunities available...white river rafting, hiking, mountain biking, canoeing, swimming, cycling, some of the best rock climbing in the east, & plenty of sightseeing. This area is located between Charleston & Beckley. If you want a secluded getaway with magnificent natural beauty, this is the place to go. I recommend staying at the park's lodge to save money. It has great info on the park and great views of the New River Valley Gorge. |
