This city have a long history since Pre-historic time. The archaeologists found some evidences of Pre-historic communities in this area such as cave in Koh Ka District,Rock painting and burial sites at Mae Moh Distict.

The history of Lampang at the first establishing found in the legends of Phra Thaat Lampang Luang,Sri Lom Temple and Cham Thevi Vongsa. And appeared in the history of Chiang Mai which described about Lampang where used to have many towns as used to have 11 names such as Kuk Kut Nakorn (or Chicken town),Ke Lang Nakorn,... So you can see the ruins of Moat ,forts and ramparts around Lampang city. Also at the area of Phra Thaat Lampang Luang area,it used to located the ancient Buddhism city called Lampha Kappa Nakorn or Vieng Lampang Luang.

In 2101 B.E. Lampang used to be under Burmese occupation for 216 years, so you can found so many Burmese temples and culture there.

Between 2430 - 2440 B.E. in the reign of King Rama V.Lampang became the center of wood commercial,some foriegners companies came especially for Burmese. Then in 2459 B.E. the northern railway was built ,the horse cart was brought to help Lampang's bussiness.

Nowaday,Lampang's poppular in Coal resources,horse carts,fine ceramic,Thaat of Lampang Luang and elephants training. The Symbol of Lampang is Chicken.
