Koh Kret Island and other Nonthaburi, Thailand Things to Do Tips

The island where used to be a land, in Ayutthay period ,there was a big project to build a canal linked the zigzag river route for more easier tranportation. So that area became an island by human doing. Also in later period,the King donated this island as a land of Mon community who invaded from Burma. It was the beginning of Mon life there. After Mon settled in Island ,they still spent their life as usual, belief and religion, food and desserts,houses,pottery making,culture and tradition,...... all 're still alive in this island.
Today,this island is one tourist attraction in Nonthaburi. There 're so many things to do and see in this place, such as visitting temples and museums, shopping Mon handicraft, trying Mon food,.....

For visitting this island, by boat, as I know there 're a cruise from Maharat pier (near Wat Phra Kaew) every Sunday. Please follow the link below.
For independent visitting, just catch bus no.32 or air con bus no. 5 and 6 from Sanam Luang field or Bang Lamphu area. It run to Pakkret then walk to Sanam Nue temple for ferry to Porramai Yikawas temple pier.

Located in Kret Island,about 100 metres from Porramaiyikawas temple. This museum originated from Khun Pisal Boonphuk who aimed to collected the ancient Mon pottery as much as he can. Inside the museum,exhibit so many old potteries which made from the ancient Mon method. Almost 're for water container but in many shapes,such as cylinder shape pot and star gooseberry shape pot. On the shoulder of all pots,they always carved or stamped as decoration.

Originally,it called Pak Ao temple.It's Mon temple where built in Ayutthaya period. It was left after the 2nd Ayutthaya War. Later, in 2417 B.E. King Rama V of Rattanakosin renovated and dedicated to his grand mother. He gave the new name "Porramai Yikawas" means temple of grand mother. Some interesting things in this temple 're Ubosot or ordination hall where decorated with mural painting depicted about life of Buddha. The mural painting 's in King Rama V style which got an influence of Western painting, Vihan where housed a huge reclining Buddha image,Maha Raman Chedi in Mon style housed the great relic from India,museum represented all Mon artifacts.

This temple was built in the reign of King Rama III by Kron Luang Seneeborrirak, one goverment officer . It was famous in mural painting inside old Ubosot or ordination hall depicted about Buddha life and Dharma puzzle.

Originally it called Sam Jeen temple, built in Pre Rattanakosin period and renovated again by one goverment officer named Chao Phraya Choduek Racha Setthi. In 2484 the name was changed to Chotikaram temple. Some interesting thing in this temple 're : Ubosot or ordination hall with curve base, Inside decorated with mural painting depicted about the conference of god and Buddha life. Another 's Viharn where have wood carving door and decorated on the ceiling with Chinese influence painting.
