On the way to a winterless north.

by Kiwigirlie - last update: Feb 8, 2005

Our excitement was growing!

Leaving Alesund
We left Alesund to begin a fairly big drive up to Trondheim. And it didn't disapoint! The miles between Molde and Engan were some of the most beautiful and we had to stop a few times so I could get shots!
The bridges and ferries of this part of Norway are fairly expensive so be prepared! It cost us £8 just to pass over one little bridge!! The mountain passes and valleys were lovely though and we were amazed once again by the beauty of it all!

Just the little things that we like.

If you aren't careful on a driving holiday, you can miss just the little things that make your journey all the more brilliant. Being the navigator I was constantly on the look out for rest stops and villages to explore as well as keeping a eye on the map!
We would stumble across little villages or the odd old church alone, on top of a hill. A lake so still it reflected everything and of course I was keeping a very sharp eye out for moose... But we only saw a deer and it was a fleeting glimise at that.
We arrived in Trondheim right on dusk so I was more concerned with directions to our next camp ground rather than scenery - which was industrial anyway. The tolls are a bit weird and although we had the correct change and I was hitting the right buttons, the machine kept spitting the money back out so we just drove on... Oops! But we did have about thirty cars behind us who went through without stopping as well so that made us feel slightly more at ease. We headed straight for the camp ground. Organised the following days with the owner (we were leaving the car there while we took the train up to Bodo), and then got stuck into making dinner. Unfortunately the camp ground was right next to a motorway so we were lulled to sleep that night with traffic rumbling past...
