"Medieaval Market Town" Oswestry by lomi
Oswestry Travel Guide: 13 reviews and 12 photos
This town, in Shropshire, once called Oswald's Tree, is one of three architecturally important old towns near the Welsh/English border. Many of the streets are narrow, but with attractive medieval black timbered and white washed buildings on either side of the road. Some of the shopping streets are traffic free.
The weekly market first started in 1190, it still takes place every Wednesday.
Look above street level, as most of the buildings in the main shopping streets have a modern commercial use. But above floor level, the architecture reflects its rich history as a wealthy merchants town.
Oswestry is the best place to explore the Welsh Mountains, Lake Vyrnwy, and the majestic castles of Powis, Chirk and Whittington. .
