"Northern Peloponnesos" Prefecture of Achaia by ncoutroulis

If you head West from Athens, anc cross the Corinth Canal, you'll eventually come to the Northern part of the Peloponnesos. It's beautiful, rugged country.

Kalavryta

This was one of my favorite villages. It's set in the mountains. It's acutally a ski resort, in-season. It was also the sight of one of the worst masacres by the Nazi's, in Greece. On 13 December, 1943, The Nazi's killed all the men in the village, over the age of 15. There is a monument to the 1500+ that were killed. That aside, Kalavryta has a very warm, intimate feeling, and it's not touristy at all.
At least not when we were there.
