"Les Contamines" Les Contamines-Montjoie by dvcdw

Les Contamines-Montjoie Travel Guide: 4 reviews and 9 photos

I try to go at least once a year to Les Contamines, since I have also some family living there. It is a village at the end of a valley from Saint-Gervais, and is also one of the better passages of the ‘Tour du Mont Blanc’: ‘la voie romaine’.
As you are at the end of a valley, most of the walking paths are going up almost immediately. If you want to walk on flat paths, you can have a nice walk between the village and ‘Notre Dame de la Gorge’, which is the end of the valley. From the village, you can also follow a bit of the river down the valley (starting at the tenniscourts and the skaterspark in the village).

Mountainbikers who want to train their climbing: from the village to the Col du Joly (via Colombaz).
Initiation for rockclimbing: at ‘L’étappe’ (sometimes written as Les Tappes). There is a small crag just beside the lake. And at the other side of the valley there is ‘La Duchère’ which has a smaller part for beginners, and a larger crag which you can reach from the walking path between the village and ‘Notre Dame de la Gorge’. There is a local association of moutain guides, that also gives rockclimbing initiations.
As for moutaineering: two classics starting from the village (from ‘Le Cugnon’): ‘le mont tondu’ and ‘Les dômes de Miage’.
