Definately worth a visit This city scares a lot of people, either that or they think there isn't much reason to come here, but it is actually a pretty nice place to visit and to live (for someone who has money, anyway). It has its bad points: pollution, noise, traffic, petty and not so petty crime (although, knock on wood, I have been here for five months and not had anything nasty happen to me...and i have done some unsmart things at times), but it has lots of good ones too: a good transportation system, lots of interesting cultural activities, friendly people, and a sense of community. It may come as a surprise, but San Salvador has all the comforts of 'home', like shopping malls, movie theaters, restaurants, bars...which although quite lame in many ways, is kind of nice when you are living here for a while. Its also a great base for exploring the rest of the country, since it is so small everything is pretty much a day/weekend trip away. There are also lots of things to see and do in the capital too. |
