Beautiful vista of Lake Lure from Chimney Rock

A nice day trip

We drove from Charlotte to Chimney Rock in about an hour and a half.
We ate lunch at Old Rock Cafe which is right at the base of the entrance into Chimney Rock.
The entrance fee was $14 each for adults.

Climb to the top for a great view

We elevator took us up about 26 stories to the top of Chimney Rock. There is a snack shop up here and several viewing platforms. There are more stairs to see other vistas, such as Devil's Rock, as shown here.

Enjoy the cool tunnel and elevator to the top

The day we were at Chimney Rock it wasn't very crowded. There is a wonderful cool tunnel that takes the visitors to the elevator. We were wisked 26 stories up to the top of Chimney Rock in 30 seconds. The person that runs the elevator gives a 30 second dialog about Chimney Rock.

Pros:Good day trip for a family
Cons:Rather expensive
In a nutshell:This is a nice place for a family to visit for a day

Take the elevator up the Chimney Rock... Things to Do (1)

It's a 3 mile drive from Entrance & Exit area to the parking area. We visited Chimney Rock during the heatwave in August... more travel advice

U had me confused for a minute...there is another Chimney Rock in my state, Nebraska. It is a landmark along the Oregon Trail, much used by the pioneers in covered wagons long ago.
