Viewing the majestic mountains in Norhtern California was something that I really wanted to do. When we went in 2000 there were quite a few forest fires raging. We were able to see Mount Shasta from this view, coming in on Interstate 5 from the South but couldn't see it when we were North of it in Weed, where we stayed.
We saw the firefighters coming back from their work all covered in soot riding on open air buses. They came back to meals prepared for them by the local town-folks. We also saw fresh crews headed out on the buses. While in town we saw the helicopters going back and forth carrying the big buckets they used for dousing the fire. It really didn't impact on our stay and visit there, we just worked around it. And, it was really quite interesting.

    Mt. Shasta looks like a wonderful place, hope to go someday. The Blue Goose Steam Train looks interesting, too...

    The Blue Goose Steam train sounds like something we would really enjoy, as we like mountain views and trains! And Northern California is also one of my favorite places, and still uncrowded!
