Masada Travel Guide: 170 reviews and 515 photos

Geographic Description

Masada is located at the top of an isolated mountain situated on the eastern slopes of the Judean Desert, close to the western coast of the Dead Sea, between Sdom and Ein Gedi. The cliff reaches a height of 440m above the Dead Sea. It's flat peak is 650m long and 300m wide. Its topographical position and remoteness made it a perfect location for a fortress during the Second Temple period.

A 50 minute sound and light showtakes place in the specially built open-air theater facing the Roman ramp on the west side of the mountain.
The Eastern Entrance (Dead Sea) is on Route 90.

Thanks for the memories of this very impressive place. When I was there, some years ago, I took the cable car up and walked back down the snake path. One of my all time favorite travel experiences.
