My home for seven years

A local's guide to Santa Fe

I have lived in Santa Fe for six years and I would consider myself very knowledgeable about activities and restaurants in the area. Because I hear so much about how expensive Santa Fe is, I wanted to offer my perspective on activities that will treat a visitor to the unique and exotic Santa Fe lifestyle without costing them very much money.

First of all remember that Santa Fe is a place where a rental car is necessary. New Mexico is the fifth biggest state in the country and everything is very spread out. The plaza area is the main tourist destination and therefore is going to be the most expensive. There is a public transportation system, but it is notoriously unreliable. I rode a bus across town once where the driver decided to stop in the middle of the road for a few minutes and run in to the local mini-mart to buy a soda. Life runs at a slower pace in Santa Fe.
