Safety: Pretty safe city

  • Beijing is generally a pretty safe city. Of course it is a big city, and the capital of China, so I wouldn't rule out any concerns of danger. Should you face "danger", I think it's more of getting tricked, misdirected, and ripped off in terms of money than having a gun or knife put on your back. Chinese people don't like crime either. I do have to say that since there is a lot of people in Beijing, watch your belongings and use common sense.

  • The weather in Beijing has been made extreme by the pollution. When I was there, there was not a single day with blue skies. In fact, the visibility was low and everything seemed to look greyish. The summers now in Beijing are extremely hot and humid, with temperatures easily reaching near 40 degrees Celsius. Dress extremely light during the summer. The clothing will stick to your skin.

Tks for showing Tsinghua Uni! So much I want to see in Beijing... but I couldn't take dust & grey skies very long :-( Short trips from sunny Kunming might be the solution. :-))
