The City of Gardens

We visited Victoria, British Columbia, in the summer of 2004. This beautiful capital city of British Columbia is located on the southern part of Vancouver Island. Victoria is the oldest city in western Canada. The city began in 1843 as a Hudson Bay Company trading post, named in honor of Queen Victoria. The rich British heritage of the city is reflected in its neighborhoods, parks, gardens, inner harbor, and of course, architecture. Two eye-catching architecture, the famous Empress Hotel and the Parliament Buildings, are located in the heart of Victoria. The British heritage truly makes Victoria a unique city on the North American continent. The city is definitely worth visiting!

What to do in Victoria

Victoria offers a lot to do for visitors, but the main thing is to experience the British heritage. This includes by starting off touring the Empress Hotel and the Parliament Buildings in downtown Victoria. Then go experience the streets of downtown Victoria with its many shops and restaurants. You also should not miss the Butchart Gardens which is located just north of the city. While you're in Victoria you should also enjoy an afternoon tea, which is an old English tradition. Afternoon tea is served at the Empress Hotel as well as at the Butchart Gardens. There are also lots of great museums in Victoria, and there is also a historic Chinatown. Enjoy Victoria!
