This is the main attraction in San Luis Obispo. This mission was founded in 1772 by Father Junipero Serra. The ancient and historic architecture is pretty interesting to see. The mission is not as big as the one in Santa Barbara, but it is still worth a quick look. There are also some artifacts inside from early settlers of the region.

San Luis Obispo offers a great opportunity for walking and strolling. The streets have nice little shops, cafes, and restaurants. Though not too interesting, the streets are pretty quiet and peaceful. The people in this Wine Country town seem pretty nice too. This is the place to relax.

The famous Hearst Castle is about 30 miles north on California Highway 1 from San Luis Obispo. This castle was built by publisher, art collector, and movie producer William Randolph Hearst. Located in San Simeon, which is adjacent to the Pacific coastline, Hearst Castle is now a California state historic monument, specifically known as "Hearst San Simeon State Historical Monument". This is definitely a must-see if you're coming to this area (San Luis Obispo County).

Directions: From San Luis Obispo, follow California Highway 1 North. Pass through Morro Bay and Cambria. In San Simeon, there should be a sign saying to turn right into the Hearst Castle Visitor Center.
