| | Monterey, located south of the San Francisco Bay Area along the California coastline, has beautiful ocean as well as mountain scenery. This place enjoys comfortable weather year-round. The city of Monterey is home to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, a popular visitor attraction to this area. To enjoy the beautiful scenery of the ocean, head to the 17-mile Drive located along the coast in Pebble Beach, just southwest of Monterey. This area also offers excellent outdoor opportunities such as golf and hiking. The area also offers fresh seafood like the San Francisco Bay Area, which can be found at the Fisherman's Wharf and the streets around the aquarium including Cannery Row. |
How to get there... The Monterey Bay area can be easily reached by car from the San Francisco Bay Area via California Highway 1 or U.S. Highway 101. California Highway 1 from Santa Cruz to Monterey is easy to drive, but if you are coming from the south, I would not recommend taking Highway 1 because it's a narrow and windy road along the edge of the Pacific Ocean for more than 100 miles. The best and quickest way to get to Monterey is to use Highway 101 to Salinas and then take California Highway 68 to Monterey. Enjoy Monterey! | | |

chewy3326 Mon Jan 29, 2007 13:56 UTC Great page on Monterey! I didn't get to see the 17-mile drive when I was there, though I do think that driving Hwy 1 south is worth it | herzog63 Thu Feb 19, 2004 13:35 UTC I love to watch Jellyfish swim too! |
