Pompei, located not far from Naples and not far from Mount Vesuvius, was the site of a terrible tragedy that occurred in 79 A.D. That year the volcano erupted, burrying the entire city along with its people in volcanic ash. You can actually witness that terrible day by seeing well-preserved human bodies in positions to dodge the volcanic ash. Walk along the ancient city blocks and tour some houses where people lived. The site also contains a huge amphitheater. Pompei is a must-see for visitors to southern Italy.
- In a nutshell:Relive that horrible day when the volcano erupted...

It was so hot the day we visited that I had to leave our tour. Your page shows me much of what I missed. The dogs which we saw too, didn't look like they were starving, but also not well taken care of either. They made me sad too.
I agree with the other comments to you Yan!....you certainly have a good way with words and I also felt for the people as I was reading your tips here. Good work! Cheers, Ann :o)
Very perceptive narrations with many personal reactions, which is what I enjoy. Having been there, I can identify. Where are the pictures that are X rated that I took on our tour...you must be a gentleman!
Your observations about the sadness of the ruins versus the curiosity they satisfy is so true. That's always been a tough one for me. Fantastic photos!!
Great pictures! I've always wanted to go to Pompeii - now I really must go!
