Colosseum

Favorite Thing: My favorite thing about Rome was enjoying looking at the Colosseum. It is such an awesome piece of archtecture. It is probably the most recognized symbol of Rome and perhaps all of Italy. Having seen it everywhere in television, books, and magazines, I finally got to see it myself.

Piazza Venezia: Beautiful Statues

Favorite Thing: The building at Piazza Venezia has a lot of beautiful statues on it. I took some close-up photos of these statues and here is one of them. Each one is like a splendid piece of artwork. You will either have to use binoculars or a zoom digital camera like I did to see them in great detail.

Favorite Thing: While the building as a whole is magnificent and beautiful, zooming into each of the little details will reveal more beautiful images. Here is another statue on the building. Very nice piece of work.

Michelangelo's Pieta

Fondest Memory: Another excellent piece of art work by Michelangelo. The Pieta is housed in the St.Peter's Basilica. It is located on the right when you enter the basilica. I learned all about this piece of work in my high school art class and finally got to see it myself.

Vatican Museum

Fondest Memory: My primary goal at the Vatican Museum was to see the Sistine Chapel...probably everyone's goal. Once again, I have learned so much about this great masterpiece that Michelangelo did in my art class. The museum is fairly big; it has a lot of ceiling art work, all very beautiful and colorful.

St Peter's/Vatican City: Climbing to the top...

Fondest Memory: It was a tiring climb to the top of St.Peter's. You can take an elevator for the first section of the climb, but everybody has to climb the final 302 steps to the very top to see the whole city of Rome and Vatican City. A lot of twists and turns, narrow ways to the top. A word of caution goes to the elderly and the young. Very tiring; take it easy.
