Hotel Ibis Gelsenkirchen: Nice and cheap stay in the center of Ruhrgebiet

We were looking for cheap accommodation somewhere in the geographical center of the Ruhr area, so we wouldn't spend too much time for traveling around. Originally we were planning to stay in Essen but since prices were higher that week due to the Fair, we chose nearby Gelsenkirchen which was definitely a wise decision. We stayed here for all 5 nights.

Unique Qualities: Hotel Ibis is situated in the center of Gelsenkirchen, close to the Main railway station and shopping pedestrian zone. The hotel offers rooms for a unique price of 49 Eur per night, which comes to almost hostel-like price of 25 Eur per person if you choose double rooms.

Same like the hotel itself - rooms were nothing exceptional, but they were clean and efficiently furnished, each with a private bathroom and a TV set. The price did not include breakfast, but you can get it for additional 9 Eur. Which may be a bit overpriced, but breakfast was OK, with a wide selection of cereals, bread rolls, jams and German salami and sausages. (If only they knew how to make a better coffee it would be excellent).

Directions: If you're coming from A40, take exit Gelsenkirchen, then a local road to Gelsenkirchen. Turn left right after you pass the railway overpassage.
