Being from Croatia - we had a lot of ex-capital cities.
I kind of never liked the smells of Venice, and Vienna was always too pompous for my taste. I've never been to Belgrade, so I can't judge it.
But of all our ex-capitals Budapest is my personal favourite. Especially when referred in Croatian, as Budimpesta - which is a feminine noun and sounds as an old lady that still captures your attention by her manners and lively spirit.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:One of great European capitals, still not overcrowded by the tourists.
  • Cons:Sometimes too open for imports from the West, changes sometimes destroy the old charm and style.
  • In a nutshell:I haven't seen many, but definitely my favourite city on the Blue Danube.
