Zagorje is the name for the region situated to the north from Zagreb. It is a beautiful area known by its hills, vineyards, old castles and several spa centers. Zagorska sela (meaning “Zagorje villages”) is one municipality situated on the border with Slovenia, little bit north from Kumrovec (known by its eco-village ans as a birth place of Josip Broz Tito) and west from Desinic, known by Veliki Tabor castle.
There’s also one castle here – Miljana – but this is not the page about it. It is the page about this small group of villages scattered on hills covered with woods and vineyards.
I went to Zagorska sela with some colleagues as we were doing some consultancy work for the municipality. Our plan was to drive around and see the municipality; to get the first impressions.
Well, we did drive around. But fog allowed us to see only some 100 meters from our car, sometimes even less. There were some great locations on the peaks of the hills and I guess the view from there is magnificent during the sunny days.

Here’s a small map just to let you orient yourself. The easiest was to reach Zagorska sela is to take Zagorje highway till Oroslavje exit, and then follow the signs for Klanjec and Kumrovec. When you reach Kumrovec you just have to drive straight through –after some 10 kilometers there will be the sign welcoming you to Zagorska sela. Sutla river will be on your right hand side – this is the border between Croatia and Slovenia.

Interesting that you were doing some consultancy work for the municipality. Did this turn out to be a long-term project for you, or just a one-off thing?
Niksa, funny little page. You really seem to have the view for the details like getting only Lasko beer in the Croatian border bar. A pity you didn't rang the bells in the chapel. :-)
Interesting page I haven’t noticed earlier. Anyhow, glad you like it, I hope I will remember more in the future :-|
spas, vineyards, I like this place!
It looks like a very mysterious place in the fog! (I would have rung the bells btw ;-))
Well there's nowt stranger than fact. Absolutely facinating. Thank you
Quaint town and I'm glad the turkeys didn't get in the way-well, good not only for them but also for you all.:-)
Nice job!
Interesting little town - I think I'd feel at home. We have fog and turkeys out here, too. One difference - our turkeys are free. Good pages.
A little town that time forgot and the decades have not improved -- except for the aqua park!
