Rørosmartnan (annual Røros market)

The Royal decree dating from the 1853 states:
"From 1854 onwards, there shall in Røros be held a market, starting on the second to last Tuesday of the month of February, and continuing untill the following Friday".

This is the time to enjoy street life, dancing and music while the town is crowded with people coming from the surrounding areas in Norway and Sweden.

(The reason why the market is held in February is because it's still winter. Before the roads and railroads were built the only means of travel were horse or dog driven sledges during the winter. Don't miss the opportunity for sledge-ride if you arrive in Røros during the winter!)

What to buy: Besides the traditional crafts you should try the local elk saussage.
