I spent five days in Berlin in the August of 2005. For me, it was one of those places where I immediately felt at home, that I liked at the first sight and more I explored it the more I liked it.
It is hard to simply list the things that contributed to this. Berlin simply felt good! The green emptiness of its geometric center. The old glory of 19th century buildings and avenues. The scars of the War and the speed of filling the gap at the place of the Wall. The relaxed atmosphere at Oranienburgerstrasse on warm summer evening and special atmosphere of city museums being open all night long. The architecture of the communist times with its fresh face-lift and the new fascinating architecture of Europe's largest construction site of the 1990s.
It is all mixed in one interesting patchwork of cosmopolit, somewhat decadent but definitely authentic Berlin atmosphere where typical German efficiency is warmed by special Berlin attitude.
It is also one of the most tourist-friendly cities I have visited, and the fact that even locals feel like tourists in many parts of the 21st century Berlin makes exploring even more enjoyable.

Reviewed this page, gonna visit that city soon ;) Great looks, great writings!
Niksa, your page is the best I've read so far about Berlin. I'm visiting in 2 weeks and my expectations are high. It was a pleasure reading your page, thanks for the effort you've put in it.
Great pages on Berlin, great info and tip was in Berlin a while back I think I will be back, some great tips to work from this time.
Hackesche Hofe is great place to hang out and watch people, whether you are a local or a tourist, just have to be careful to hold on to your wallet in more ways than one LOL
niksa, excellent berlin page. i plan to visit berlin this spring and found your tips very helpful. regards, doug48
I'll be following your trail in search of quirky architecture as train stations, rows of communist apartment blocks etc are all fascinating to me. Excellent blend of information, commentary and clear directions. A superb page :))
very ex.will be in berlin oct. thanx for really fantastic architec. tipz...outstanding info. thanx.
I agree with your take on the street closure -- as to the new site, there is an ongoing quarrel between the embassy and the city. In London the US embassy does not want to pay the congestion zone toll. All not helpful in reducing anti-american prejudices.
It is really fascinating! Great views! I'd like to go there some day...
It is I who have been wandering thru these fantastic tips for the last week preparing for our September trip. Organized, well-written -- I appreciate your effort. N.
