The largest hotel in the worls is my preferred hotel when staying in Las Vegas. I have and continue to recommend this hotel to people who are travelling to the town. The MGM offers check-in at McCarran and transport to the hotel. Prices are comparable to taxis/shuttles. You can also have your bags delivered to your room and get straight into the action This 'City of Entertainment' has loads to see and do and, in the unlikely event that you feel the need to wander has easy access to the New York, New York Hotel, Excalibur, Luxor and, by monorail, (scheduled to re-open early 2004 after extension) to many other Strip casinos. (See LVMonorail.com for details)
Unique Qualities: My preference is for a Grand Tower room which is worth the small extra cost as the room is much larger and the view (if you are lucky enough to get a room facing the Strip) is great. A casino floor the size of 5 (US) football fields means that you can always play the games you like although finding you way back to your room can sometimes be a little confusing.

Perhaps my second favourite hotel in Las Vegas. Great rooms, although finding them can be a little tough as the hotel layout is somewhat confusing. Facilities and amenities are all that you would expect of a Strip hotel.
Unique Qualities: Try the rollercoaster. 'The Bar at Times Square' where they have dueling pianos most nights is excellent singalong fun. Perhaps 'Nine Fine Irishmen' for imported beers in a reasonable facsimile of a Irish Pub. Good food can also be found here.

After I had my first taste of Las Vegas a few years ago I decided I wanted to go back and try out one of the major themed Strip Hotels. My first choice was the one that had interested for some time. The odd shape, that light etc. A very pleasant experience throughout and compares well with the other Strip hotels (MGM, NYNY) at which I have stayed.
Unique Qualities: The elevators that rise at an angle (39 degrees) and are called "inclinators". A most unusual sensation...once you are used to them, watch the faces of newbies, a laugh every time. A useful monorail that connects to Mandalay Bay & Excalibur. From Excalibur you can walk to New York, New York then MGM Grand by skyway and from there to the monorail connected to Bally's. Be aware, that the second monorail is currently (9/03) closed during construction of an extension further down the Strip.

I was booked into this hotel as part of a bus/coach tour, so I had no option as to the accomodation I did some research, on this site and others and received conflicting reports. Some semd to hate it and had appalling rooms while others had a great time. Well, I fall into the latter category. I found very little lacking (other than no safe in the room) and was satisfied with the room and the service I received.
Unique Qualities: The real downside to this hotel is the fact that it is located at the far end of the Strip (in fact it's so far down, I hesitate to call it a Strip hotel). It's not really near any of the other hotels and you will need a car to visit those or, as I did, take a public bus. The price is what make this an attractive proposition. You can get a reasonable stay at lower room rates than can be found elsewhere on the 'main' Strip. On the other hand, if you are a player, you will find lower minimum table stakes here.
