Lincoln Home National Historic Site

A visit to Springfield is not complete without a trip to the house in which Abraham Lincoln lived from 1844 to the time he left to take up the US presidency in 1861.

The home of Abraham and Mary Lincoln at Eighth and Jackson streets has been fully restored to the Lincoln period.

The site is administered by the National Park Service and includes The Lincoln Home and 13 other historic houses preserved in a four-block, nineteenth-century setting.

The park staff provides FREE scheduled guided tours of the Lincoln Home taking you through the each of the home's rooms and giving details who would have used them and provides a wealth of information.

Lincoln's Tomb

The Tomb is sited in Oak Ridge Cemetery and is the other Lincoln "must see" in Springfield after the Lincoln Home [].

The Lincoln Tomb is managed by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency.

Lincoln Tomb State Historic Site is open daily from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. It is closed on major holidays.

Admission is FREE.
