Some people have asked where to get art supplies in Madrid. This place is a standard and right in the center so its easy to get to. Its right on Calle Huertas. Here you can get paper, pens, paint and lots of other stuff.

A wine shop offering a nice variety of Spanish wines representing many of 63 wine regions in Spain. They also have a selection of international wines. Its great because its so convenient for travellers and besides the Corte Ingles its the best wine shop in the center! Also one of the owners is a young friendly American woman who has lived in Madrid for about 8 years and knows a ton about Spanish wine. And you'll have no problems with the language barrier! Tuesday nights there are wine tasting courses starting at 8.30pm but you have to reserve a spot ahead of time. It costs only 15 euros to try and learn about 5 wines. MM!

This shop is part of a chain which has about 4 or 5 other shops throughout the city, thus the French name...

    What To Buy: Vino Espanol!!

What To Pay: The great thing about Spain´s wines is the price to quality ratio. You can get a great 5 euro wine and up from there!!

  • Name of Shop: Fortunata - La Tienda de Madrid

Named after the famous book "Fortunata y Jacinta" by Benito Perez Galdos which is one of the reference points of Spanish literature. The book takes place in the areas around the Plaza Mayor in the end of the 19th century.
This little shop is dedicated to Madrid, its got interesting plates, magnets etc decorated with the tiles of Madrid's streets. There are lots of books as well (most in Spanish) that are dedicated to stories of Madrid, novels which take place here and history books. A great little shop to get a unique gift from Madrid.

What To Buy: Books about Madrid, tiles, ceramic plates and mugs decorated with street names, phrases from Don Quixote, and turn of the century advertisements.

Nice page on Madrid. Are you teaching English there? I'm a Brit teaching English down south in Cadiz. I've been here since 2000 :)

Eat at the locals eating times and you will find this a great place full of locals. Have dinner/supper at 20:00-21:30 and expect only tourists......excellent reasonably priced food.
