De Madrid al Cielo!

Bienvenidos a Madrid!

Calle Alcala and Gran Via
Madrid has been my home for the the past 5 years. The people are friendly, outgoing, gregarious and love to be together. The city is both very Spanish and cosmopolitian at the same time. For the visitor it is a wonderful place to visit full of top notch museums, restaurants, monuments and everything a city of 5 million people could offer. Discover all this and also its quiet back streets in the historical center and come find out why I have been here this long!

Madrid is also a culinary delight. Its a great place to discover the new Spanish cuisine as well as traditional. And with restaurants from all of the regions of Spain its a great way to try the dishes from those regions you may not get to visit this time around.
Palacio de Communicaciones
One of the most beautiful buildings in Madrid is The Palacio de Communications, a fancy name for the central post office. Although supposedly it will soon become the home of the City Hall of Madrid. In front of the building in the middle of the roundabout is one of the most famous symbols of the city, a statue of Madrid's own goddess, Cibeles. I took this photo in May 2004 when these monuments were specially lit up in the days preceding Prince Felipe's wedding. The colors of blue, pink and yellow were chosen to light up this emblematic landmark as they are the colors of Madrid's sunsets.

Madrid's New Airport

Welcome to Madrid and the new T4 Terminal at Barajas Airport. I have created a
tip that gives you the basics on how to get to and from T4 on your arrival in Madrid. The terminal is causing a bit of controversy this month in its less than stellar opening Feb 5th, 2006 but it seems the bugs are slowly being worked out. The building is beautiful and promises to offer Madrid's international visitors a more plesant welcome than they currently get at T1.

Nice page on Madrid. Are you teaching English there? I'm a Brit teaching English down south in Cadiz. I've been here since 2000 :)

Eat at the locals eating times and you will find this a great place full of locals. Have dinner/supper at 20:00-21:30 and expect only tourists......excellent reasonably priced food.
