MUSCAT - OMAN - THE LAND OF FRANKENCENSE

by northsea - last update: Oct 22, 2005

The ruler of Oman

Qaboos bin Said al Said
In 1891, Oman became a British protectorate, which lasted until 1971. The year prior, sultan Said ibn Taimur had been ousted by his son, sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said, (ruled 1970 - ). Qaboos has since greatly improved the economic situation of the country, remaining in peace with all other countries in the Middle East.
This is the country that stole my heart. I visited Oman for the first time in 1989 and since, I have been visiting about ten times.. It's a country where you will find beautifull beaches, breathtaking mountains, desert with high dunes, sincere population and cleanliness all over the country.
Sultan Qaboos rules the sultanate in perfect harmony with the people, even in the mountains, the little villages have electicity and T.V.

Deserts and Mountains

The mountain ranges and deserts offer wonderful locations for 4WD touring, trekking, and camping. "A night under the stars" in Oman is an experience never to be forgotten. Picnics in the wild and beautiful mountain wadis or in the Wahiba Sands will enable you to experience the beautiful natural world.

Old carved doors in old Muscat

Sunsets along the Muttrah Corniche, the sights, sounds, and smells of the Souq's, Omani bullfights in Barka, diving in the Gulf of Oman, the white sands, the mountain ranges. All these and more, for this is the best place to be in the Gulf.
