San Antonio

by Yaqui - last update: Aug 27, 2007

Since its simple beginnings back in 8000 BC when the Paleo Indians hunted and gathered along the San Antonio River called Yanaguana, to 1535 when Spanish explorers crossed paths here, till finally in 1691 a Governor of Tejas was established for the area and in 1718 "Villa de San Fernando", San Antonio found it's in place in history.

San Antonio is a city rich in culture, arts, history and traditions. I was truly amazed with so much too see and I barely scratched the surface. As usual, I walk a lot when visiting a city because it's the only way to really take a look up close of the people who live there and all the wonderful history it has to share. Everyone was friendly, helpful and really seemed darn cheery. For obvious reasons, the Alamo (Mission de Valero) is a center of much attraction for the city of San Antonio and second is the River walk which is spectacular for shops, restaurants, and entertainment

The Alamo Wall of Time

This is a wonderful presentation of a time line of history of the city. From their simple beginnings to what it is today. Take some time to explore the whole square.

Beautiful Gardens

During my visit in April, they are had some spectacular blooms everywhere in the court yard. Very lovely and breath taking!

Pros:"Lots to see and do here and lots of friendly people to meet!"
Cons:"The freeways stink and their road engineers need to be slapped!"
In A Nutshell:"You must visit even if it's just to see the Riverwalk or Alamo!"
