The Washo Native Americans were the first to enjoy and cherish these beautiful sandy shores. Although, there are rocky coves, the views from this area are panoramic. This shoreline, consist of 55 acres of a sandy beach where swimming, picnicking, camping, boating, entertainment, and dinning is enjoyed. It was once owned by lumber baron Walter Scott Hobart in the 1880’s. He had established the Sierra Nevada Wood & Lumber Company here along this sandy beach coves. Eventually Walter Scott Hobart Jr., inherited his fathers wealth along with all the land. He was known to spend a pretty penny entertaining the celebrities during the day. He planned to build a casino, but instead he worked on building a summer estate, that became known as Thunderbird Lodge. So around 1958 he instead sold off over 5,000 acres to the state, which became the basis of Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park.

Nice tips! I had never heard of the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival. I just looked them up and find they are doing the 'Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)' this summer -- a parody that ran for nine years in London.
