We venture through this Casino quite a bit. It is also where you can catch the Metrorail too. We've like to shop through this area and have found some nice dinning facilities in their mall area too. Some friends of our just recently stayed here and they liked it a lot because it was right on the strip and they said the rooms were pretty nice. Serive was not bad either. They have lots of wonderful restaurants, shops, and the casino is always hopping. Never encountered any trouble here at all. El Cortez was built in 1941 for $245,000 by J.K. Houssels as a fifty nine room hotel and casino. Although it built far away from the lime light of Vegas, it was becoming very successful. Soon some of Vegas most colorful gangsters such as Bugsy Siegel and Meyer Lansky were very attracted to Cortez success; they soon bought this very property in 1945. The Pavilion rooms were added in 1963 and in 1980 the tower was added bring the room count to 300. It was bought by Jackie Gaughan in 1963 that still owns and operates the property. He lives up in the penthouse in the tower and it is said you can see him daily in the casino.

Although, this hotel is off from the strip. It has lots to offer as far as entertainment and relaxation. I think having a room that overlooks the Mystic Falls and all the beautiful trees would be relaxing. There are also the rooms that face the mountians, so that would make for a beautiful view.

We stayed here our last visit and I can honestly say we really enjoyed this place. It is very family orientated. Our room to me was more like a 4.5 star hotel. Really nicely decorated and had all the luxuries anyone could need. Our view was simply awesome to say the least. Plus, it is close enough, yet far enough away from the strip if that makes sense?! You can walk to the strip with no problem. Plenty of free parking. Each tower has it own pool area, but over in the main pool area, they had happy hour for the adults...yay! Live entertainment and they have a wonderful game room for the kids with loads of activities. They have a mini cafeteria and a little general store. They even have an adult pool area, which was really relaxing and very quiet. I was really impressed with the service at the front desk and the concierge services. They were really helpful in finding some of the museums. Vegas is growing and changing and so do some of the locations of the activities, so it might be a good idea to check with the concierge desk first.
Located a mile from Las Vegas Boulevard at the famed Strip's center, puts you close to world-famous Vegas thrills, yet far enough away to savor family-friendly fun, too. If you like active vacations, this modern, high-energy resort has a big choice of recreational amenities to make your Las Vegas stay a guaranteed winner.
