"Old Vegas value isn't gone... It just moved to exit 12."
As western civilization moved in with its railroads tracks stretching as far as the eye can see, many of these train stops were called siding that served the purpose of providing a way to get supplies in and out namely the mining companies. Although these sidings were not official depots, miners, pioneers, and business men saw them as an opportunity to settle in the nearby area. Jean was one of the railroad sidings that served many communities now gone such as Ivanpah 1869-1882 and Goodsprings 1860 that still boast a stamped-metal Pioneer Saloon. Keystone mine was established near this area and used Jean siding to ship out the silver ore brought in by wagons. Jean today has only one casino Gold Strike, which use to have two Nevada’s Landing now demolished, which is another story. |
| | Nevada's Landing now gone:( Jean still thrives, although it only has two permanent residents (census 2006) to having a thriving community of temporary residents due to employment and travelers. Pop’s Oasis was the first casino which opened its doors 1972- and closed 1988 when Nevada’s Landing was built to replace it.
MGM/Mirage owned Nevada Landing was demolished to make way for a future planned community of track homes, commercial space, condo's and possible more high rises. We will see. |
