The Dearborn area was first settled by Europeans in 1791. The village of Dearborn was established in 1836, named after patriot Henry Dearborn, a general in the American Revolution and Secretary of War under President of the United StatesPresident Thomas Jefferson. Its origins as a city trace back to a January 1929 consolidation vote which established its present-day borders by merging Dearborn and neighboring Fordson (previously known as Springwells) which feared being absorbed into Detroit. The area between the two towns was, and still remains in part undeveloped.

This, once farm land, was bought by Henry Ford who built his estate and Ford World Headquarters on it. Later developments in this corridor were the Ford airport, (later converted to the Ford test track), other Ford administrative and development facilities, The Henry Ford village and museum and Fair Lane, the Henry Ford Centennial Library and the Dearborn Civic Center. Some of the land remains open as of 2005 and is planted with sunflowers and often in Henry Ford's favorite soybeans, presumably for property tax reduction purposes. The crops are never harvested.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dearborn%2C_Michigan

What a wonderful Museum. I take it they are all Ford Motor Vehicles? Love the forms of transport, the horse, train and bus! Excellent page!

Dearborn Michigan is not that far away from us. When our children were in grade school, there was an outing to Henry Ford Museum and Greenwich Village. Fascinating place and so much American History.

Today our local paper had a long article on Henry Ford, about his disastrous attempt to set up a rubber plantation in Brazil without having a clue about how to do it. His grandson Henry Ford II immediately got rid of the whole project as soon as he took over the company in 1945, but by then it had lost millions of dollars. Now the whole place is in ruins and the Brazilian government is trying to figure out what to do with it.

I like this page Dee, many contrasts - the horse drawn shuttle to Presidents' limos and the magnificent Ford cars. Well done!

Looks like a very interesting place to visit, and it seems like a full day to explore all the exhibitions is a minimum.

So all these "Things to do" are in the one museum - is that right? It certainly looks like an interesting one - I would enjoy visiting it I'm sure. A shame though that they sow crops that are never harvested - what a waste!

Thank you for visiting. I was interesting to see this place finally. Yet, we were attending to my MotherInLaw. She is doing well for now. Thanks again!
