Yosemite

by Yaqui - last update: Sep 21, 2004

Yosemite was set aside in 1864 by Abraham Lincoln in order to allow the public to enjoy Yosemite Valley's high waterfalls, deep cliffs, open meadows, and oak woodlands as well as the Mariposa Grove's massive and ancient giant sequoias. When it became a national park in 1890, it was expanded to include Tuolumne Meadows and the high country.

It's so beautiful everytime I go, but you need to be aware of summer because it is wall to wall full of campers. So, try to visit during the off season.

Nice Yosemite tips, especially about the Bears. Bears are pretty bold in Yosemite. I've seen them roam the campgrounds like they own the place. And I give them respect as if they do own the place! I'm always careful about black bears in the Sierras.

I'm not a camper and a bit late to start, though I suspect my California folks will try again next time. A nice page and useful tips for families.

Nice tiny page about Yosemite. I noticed you have a lot of pages about National Parks, I'll check them later as I dream of visiting some day! For now, it is already late around here in Portugal. :)

Yosemite is a trip unto itself. Not sure if you can ever completely figure it out but it's sure is pretty despite all those people getting in your way! lol Great to hear you exposed your little one to the great outdoors so young.
